Why Is There Confusion over the Plural of Stadium?
Confusion arises over the plural of "stadium" because its original plural form ("stadia") derives from Latin and native English speakers are drawn to "stadiums," which adheres to the standard ruling for forming plurals. Both "stadia" and "stadiums" are acceptable, but "stadiums" has become the more common plural and the safest option. (See the evidence in Google's Ngram Viewer.) (Of note, due to the release of the Google Stadia, the word has recently increased in popularity.)
